Bauhaus College - CTC Award
Steven Griffiths, director of CNC Property Fund Management Limited, said: "We have been delighted with the response and I think it's been an interesting exercise for us as owners to see what the students came up with."
The background to this competition was as follows: The proposals are based on the research in Cumbernauld by a group of architectural students from the Bauhaus College in Germany. The CTC award is searching for the best urban idea for the future of the town centre of Cumbernauld. The goal was to to illustrate an innovative strategy to reorganize the town centre and to describe the improved future use. The solution should address the past developments and find an integrative solution on how to transform and develop the existing situation into a coherent town centre. The proposals will be judged by the citizens of Cumbernauld through the local newspaper, The Cumbernauld News, and also here on the website.
The submissions have been scrutinised by a panel of 'experts' who have provided some helpful comments and views on the students proposals. The panel was made up of; Gordon Murray - a renowned Architect who has a keen interest in Cumbernauld, Katherine Sneeden - a Town Planner and Associate Partner of DPP, Steven Griffiths - Chartered Surveyor and Director of CNC Property Fund Management Limited (the agents who look after the Phases 1 and 2 part of the Centre), and Emma Newlands of Cumbernauld News who represented the public. The below pdf of their comments will provide some assistance when you are considering the proposals and forming your own views of the various submissions.
There will be a display of the entries in 15 Forth Walk, Cumbernauld Centre (next to Frisco Hair), where the public can view full size pictures of the submissions, (date to be confirmed), people can also vote there as well.
